C.Nakahara: The pain of the poet
No more shall I ever sing.
Nobody is ever more singing.
The herd would not listen at all,
They only pretend to be listening.
The herd hold within them a cold, nonchalant heart,
And deem our songs none of their business;
Despite so, the herd pretend to be listening,
To be clapping their hands in all passions;
An applause they give, another song they require,
With their faces saying: That is fair enough.
So no more shall I ever sing,
In a world of opportunities, no more shall I ever sing.

詩人は辛い
私はもう歌なぞ歌わない
誰が歌なぞ歌うものか
みんな歌なぞ聴いてはいない
聴いてるようなふりだけはする
みんなただ冷たい心を持っていて
歌なぞどうだったってかまわないのだ
それなのに聴いてるようなふりはする
そして盛んに拍手を送る
拍手を送るからもう一つ歌おうとすると
もう沢山といった顔
私はもう歌なぞ歌わない
こんな御都合な世の中に歌なぞ歌わない
